Why birth photography?
All of the moments surrounding when your child comes into this world are amazing. There are so many emotions waiting to be captured. From the first sight, the sounds of their first cry, the warmth of your touch, these are the moments in your child's birth story that simply cannot be conveyed with only words. Not only does birth photography provide amazing memories conveying deep emotions, instant bonds, and telling the story of your little ones first journey; but it also proves how much strength you have. You created a baby. You are powerful!. And you are amazing!

Why hire a professional birth photographer?
There will be so many moments during your birth that you will not remember. While you are busy having contractions, bearing down, or otherwise being occupied bringing life into the world, I can focus on capturing the memories of things that will be happening around you. The looks of concern from your partner. How they tended to your bedside. Your close friends/family waiting eagerly to meet your new child. These are just some of the little details that I can capture to help you remember the day.

Can’t my partner or doula take photos of my child's birth?
Absolutely. You can have family/friend/doula take snapshots for you. But please keep in mind that this is a special day for your partner and family as well. Give them the gift of not having to worry about documenting your little ones birth story. Hire a professional photographer. This allows them to not only be in the photos but they get to experience the birth with you. There are many challenges with documenting a birth like the amount of available space or the lack of available light. I know my camera well and can make changes quickly. For example: when the hospital staff turn off the ambient lights and turn on the spotlight. So if you are looking for worry free professional quality photographs to document your labor/delivery I suggest hiring a professional photographer.

How personal do you get?
Every birth story is different. Some moms prefer a more modest point of view, while others want images of their baby crowning. Both are beautiful. So it’s really up to you and what you are comfortable with. And if you are unsure, let's talk. We can also discuss having me make a seperate folder with those sensitive images that will allow you to view them when you are ready.
When do you arrive for the birth and how long will you stay?
My goal is to arrive when you are in active labor. But every birth is different. Some moms have their baby’s really quickly. While others, like the birth of my son, can take days. So when we talk, we will discuss what your birth plan is. I will find out if this is your first baby,  what your prior experiences we like during childbirth. I typically try to arrive when you are dilated 5-6cm, or unable to talk during contractions. But it is very important that we stay in contact routinely during your labor. Some women can go from 5cm to 9cm in thirty minutes, while others may stay at 5cm for hours. But once your baby is born I usually stay for a couple hours after birth to capture all the beautiful bonding moments.

How many birth photography sessions do you book per month?
I only book 3 births per month. This is because of the unpredictable nature of birth. I use your due date as a marker. This marker guarantees my availability for the 5 week range (3 weeks prior and 2 weeks after) surrounding your due date. I will be on call to you 24/7 during this range. Which means I will have my camera bag ready, my phone turned up, and child care on stand by so I can arrive at your birthing locations at any time of the day, any day of the week.

What if I have a c-section?
If you have a planned c-section, or an emergency cesarean I can still deliver beautiful photos of your little ones birth story even if I am not allowed in the operating room. But only the doctor can decide if I can come back or not. But either way I will be there waiting to capture all the cuddles and breast feeding when you come out of recovery.

When should I call you?
I want you to call me as soon as you think something is happening. Even if you are not sure. False alarms happen, but they can also be a sign that your body is prepping. Please don’t worry about being a bother to me. That won’t happen. I want to know about any changes happening. You can even give me updates from your prenatal appointments. I am excited for you, but I also want to make sure I don’t miss a thing! So please have someone contact me as soon as you think labor has begun. And then keep me updated as you progress.

When is payment due?
I require a $500 retainer when you book your labor and delivery photography sesion. And the full payment is required to be paid in full no later than three weeks prior to your due date. I do offer payment plans. So feel free to contact me and let's schedule a time to talk.
